Greenbin Glen
With the Easter holidays fast approaching, residents are reminded to use their recycling services whilst the children are at home.
Sarah Lloyd, Waste Education Officer says:
‘School holidays can often be a time of upheaval with all the normal routines thrown out for two weeks and the children getting in the way! It’s important however, that you don’t forget your normal recycling routine and continue to use your red box and green bin services. They are really easy to use!’
School holidays can be a time of extra waste being generated, with kids at home all day, making it more important that families in the borough are careful about what they are throwing in the bin.
Why not ask your children to help you sort your rubbish? Cans, glass, paper, aerosols, foil household and car batteries, textiles and shoes can all be put out in your weekly red box collection.
Councillor Geoff Ashford, Portfolio Holder for Health and the Environment says:
‘It is really important that people recycle as much as possible at all times during the year, and the school holidays are a great time to teach your children to recycle. If they learn about recycling when they are young then they will carry on looking after the environment when they are adults too. Remember that you are recycling for their future.’
With British Summer Time officially starting last weekend, residents may now be tempted to go into their gardens and start pruning, clearing and digging. The green bins started their fortnightly collections back at the beginning of March, and they are the best way of disposing of your green garden waste. The green bin waste is taken for composting and doesn’t end its life in our jam-packed landfill site. There are also cut price home composters available from Warwickshire County Council, call 02476 376170 for more details.
Please note that over the Easter bank holiday there will be no changes to the refuse and recycling services.
