Denise’s Green Dream
TV babe Denise Van Outen is putting the glamour into green this summer, by calling for households in Nuneaton and Bedworth to take part in a recycling revolution.
The star of the smash BBC TV show ‘Any Dream Will Do’ is backing Recycle Now Week running from June 2nd -June 8th, a national week of action to encourage us all to recycle more of our household and garden waste.
Denise, whose search for the next Joseph has proved massive hit on BBC 1, offered some simple advice for local households keen to get into the recycling habit: “Don’t throw it outen – recycle!”
She said:
“We all know that green is the new black, so I hope everyone in Nuneaton and Bedworth will get involved in Recycle Now Week. I’ve been into recycling for several years, and it’s great to see that it’s no longer something just a few of us do. When I’m at home in the UK, I always use my council’s doorstep collection service, and I try to shop sensibly by buying goods that use less packaging. It’s really easy to get into the habit, and it makes a lot of environmental sense. Going green has never been more fashionable.”
Amanda Barry Hirst from Recycle Now says:
“Recycling is one of the simplest and most effective things we can all do to help the environment. The UK experienced significant growth in recycling rates, and nine out of ten homes now have doorstep collections. It’s never been easier, and Recycle Now Week aims to inspire all of us to do our bit.”
Denise offered the following top recycling tips:
1. Don’t throw it outen: Remember to use your council’s doorstep recycling collection, if you have one. If you don’t, log on to www.recyclenow.com to find out where your nearest recycling centre is.
2. Get your hands dirty: Get a compost bin for your garden and food waste. Feed it with vegetable and fruit peelings, teabags, eggshells and garden prunings to create compost that will make your garden bloom.
3. Keep it in the kitchen: Make space next to your kitchen bin for a recycling container – then it’s as simple to recycle as it is to throw away.
4. Drop before you shop: Don’t forget, your local supermarket probably has recycling banks, so you can also recycle while you shop.
5. Buy it loose: When you are shopping at the supermarket, buy loose fruit and vegetables, rather than pre-packed. Get a ‘bag for life’, rather than using endless plastic carrier bags.
