Council Starts Work On Building Improved Customer Service Centre

Local people in Nuneaton and Bedworth will start to see a change in the way the Council delivers its services from next week. In line with plans agreed earlier this year, work will start on the building of the Council’s new customer services centre in the Town Hall.

During week commencing Monday 2 July 2007 this will mean that the current general enquires desk, located in the Town Hall’s main foyer area, will be closed and removed to allow works to remove walls to begin.

The area where the desk currently stands will be enclosed in a floor to ceiling hoarding to keep members of the public and council employees safe. The housing benefits and council tax customer services counters, that are located behind the general enquiries desks will remain open for the time being. Staff who normally sit at the general enquiries desk will move to the planning reception desk, which is also situated on the ground floor of the Town Hall and continue to offer their normal service from here.

Councillor Julie Jackson, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Central Services said:

‘I am very pleased that we are now starting the work to build our new customer service centre in the Town Hall.  When finished these modern facilities, will help us to continue to deliver one of our key corporate aims of providing quality services which represent value for money to the citizens of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough.  During the summer period the building work we need to carry out will mean that we have to deliver some of our services in a slightly different way, but I hope that people will bear with us while we build the new facilities, which we are aiming to have up and running by the start of October. During the building works we’ll be doing all we can to minimise the disruption and make sure that people know where to go to get the service they want. During the whole of the building process our cashiers and planning enquiries desks in the Town hall will remain open as normal.’
