Community Action Week - Skips and Slips!
The Poplar area of Bedworth will be the setting for the first of two Action Weeks organised by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. The second Community Action Week will take place in the Wembrook area of Nuneaton from September 26th.
From Monday, a wide variety of services and expertise will be on offer in the Poplar area. Among the unique services available will be a free slipper swap for the elderly on Thursday. Old unsupportive slippers can be swapped for special supportive slippers courtesy of the Healthy Living Network.
The action week will also be the ideal opportunity for residents to have a good old clear out of unwanted household items. A free skip service is to be available at various venues throughout the week, including:
Tuesday, September 13 – Walter Scott Road
Wednesday, September 14– Lady Warwick Avenue/Mitchell Road
Thursday, September 15 – Coalpit Fields Garage Site
Friday, September 16 – George Eliot Garage site
Each day of the week will see a different theme - Area Walkabout (Monday); Job skills and money matters at Bedworth Leisure Centre (Tuesday); Community safety at Bedworth Leisure Centre (Wednesday); Health and well-being at Bedworth Leisure Centre (Thursday); and Ward celebrations at St Michael’s C of E Primary School (Friday).
Residents who would like to attend any of the venues but without transport are able to take advantage of a free mini bus service being provided by the Council. All they need to do is call 07920 592332, leave their name, number and address and we will collect them and drop them off at the venue. We cannot guarantee pick up times but aim to collect them within an hour of their call.
Cllr Tony Lloyd, portfolio holder for housing, said:
“Community Action Week is all about the Council and our partner agencies working together for the benefit of the local community and I urge residents of Poplar to come along to the events we are doing between 12 – 16 September to take advantage of the variety of resources, information, facilities and expertise on offer.
“We intend to make a real positive difference to the lives of local people and hope to see as many as possible there.”
