Damaged Cemetery Containers Replaced

Since the mindless vandalism that had occurred last week at Oaston Road cemetery, the Council has been actively working with Warwickshire Police to find out who deliberately caused this damage.

During a routine inspection of the Cemetery by a Council employee it was noticed that the metal tops had been stolen from over 150 commemorative vases, with the flowers removed and scattered over a wide area within the Remembrance Gardens.  The Council has ordered replacements and these will be fitted as soon as they are delivered.

The Council will be writing out to all those relatives whose memorials need a replacement silver top to advise them that this will be taking place as soon as possible.

Councillor Tony Lloyd, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Recreation today said

“ Due to the completely unnecessary and mindless act which has caused added grief for those who have a memorial within the Garden of Rest, I would like to pass on my sympathies to all those concerned and confirm that new silver tops will be replaced within the next couple of weeks.”
