Calling all Clerics! – Tell us About Your Life and Work

Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery is embarking on an exciting project that will document and record the lives of religious leaders operating within the borough, finding out more about their experiences and examining day-to-day activities and roles within the wider community.

It is a 150 years, this year, since George Eliot’s first book Scenes of Clerical Life was published.  The book is inspired by real life characters who lived in the area, and centres around the exploits of local clergymen and their dealings with the townsfolk. To commemorate the anniversary of its publication an exhibition will be created about modern clerical life at the museum, which will include the recorded interviews, filming and photography.  A schools education pack will also be produced.

Councillor Tony Lloyd, Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation says:

‘This is a great opportunity to share, and learn more about people’s religions.  I’m sure it will be of great interest to many people’

The Reverend Pogmore, Chaplin of the George Eliot hospital, has kindly agreed to be the subject of the first interview.  If you are head of any local faith-based groups and would like to participate please contact Daniel De’Ath on 02476 350720 or at museum@nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk.
