New Choice Based Letting scheme For Housing applications

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is changing the way it deals with applications for housing, and preparations will be undertaken during April and May 2009.

 

UChoose Homes is the new Choice Based Lettings Partnership, which has been designed to give tenants improved access to affordable rented properties across the Northern Warwickshire and Southern Staffordshire areas.  All of the partners will be sharing the same housing register and participants will be able to express an interest for properties across all eight local authority areas.  UChoose Homes is launching on 18th May 2009

 

UChoose Homes is going to replace the old paper housing application system that is currently used by the Council and as such there is now a transitional period as names are taken from the old list and added to the new one which is being done entirely electronically.  This transfer will be done with effect from 20th March 2009 and as a result the receipt of new housing applications is being temporarily halted.

 

Urgent re-housing requests from people who are under threat of homelessness will still be processed, anyone else intending to apply is being asked to wait a few weeks before making an application.  When the process of applications is resumed it will be directly to the new on-line system on the internet which will have guidance issued with it, and for those who don’t have access to the internet the Council is hosting drop-in sessions to offer help.

 

It is not anticipated that this temporary postponement on issuing applications will have any significant effect on applicants re-housing prospects.
