Halloween and Bonfire Night can be lots of fun, but it's important to remember that sometimes your fun can upset others.
Advisory leaflets are currently being given out in schools to advise parents on fireworks and Halloween behaviour.
Warwickshire police are cracking down on anti-social behaviour and disorder over the Halloween and Bonfire night period. Many shops will be assisting the police by refraining from selling flour and eggs to people under the age of 18 unless accompanied by an adult.
Please be aware that it is illegal to let off any fireworks in a public place and carries a fine of up to £5,000. Police may also issue an £80 fixed Penalty notice.
Please keep your celebrations within the law, be considerate to other people, and a good time can be had by all.
Here are a few tips to keep you safe and ensure this Halloween is fun for everyone:
- Adults should always accompany children when trick or treating. Young people should never go trick or treating alone.
- Do not knock on the doors of strangers – only go to people you know.
- Always keep to well lit areas. Wear bright clothing and always carry a torch.
- Unless pre arranged, do not visit elderly members of the community. Be careful not to frighten vulnerable people.
- Keep your tricks within the law – anything that results in damage is an offence and will be dealt with as such.
- Please do not knock on doors where the ‘No trick or treat’ posters are displayed
