Foot and Mouth Outbreak

A UK-wide ban on the movement of all livestock is in place after cattle at a Guildford farm tested positive for Foot and Mouth disease. Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards team have been working with the local branch of the National Farmers Union to alert local farmers to the restrictions.

“Following confirmation of the Surrey cases, there is now a national restriction on the movement of the following animals - sheep, cows, pigs and goats. It is vital we get the message out in our own area,” said Head of WCC Trading Standards Mark Ryder.

“Livestock markets in Rugby and Stratford have been cancelled until further notice, and everyone needs to be aware that they should not move animals, nor go to market.”

Some 60 animals are being culled at the Surrey farm, and the Government’s emergency Cobra committee has been meeting over the weekend.
