National Concessionary Bus Pass Scheme

Bus - Free National Travel Passes
The Transport Secretary announced on 22 March 2006 that from April 2008 the local entitlement for free bus travel would be extended to allow free bus travel in every area of the country.

This means that from 1st April 2008 the current bus pass scheme operated by the Borough will be extended to allow travel free on off-peak local bus services anywhere in England.

Councils within Warwickshire have extended the defined off-peak travel times to start at 9am, enabling travel from 9am till midnight on weekdays. For travel outside of the County you can use the pass anywhere else in England on a valid journey between 9.30 am and 11pm weekdays and anytime weekends and bank holidays.

Journeys are only permitted on production of a nationally recognised pass.

So what does this mean to existing pass holders?

If you already have a local bus pass issued by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council you don't need to do anything. We already have all of your details and photos on our database and will use this information to produce your new National Pass.

We will no longer produce the passes in-house but they will be sent to our external card supplier, who will print your pass and post it out to you. You will receive your new passes during March 2008.
You do NOT need to complete a new application form or supply a new photograph.

What if I have moved?

If you have moved address in the last 2 years and have not informed us then you need to contact us to tell us your new address or your pass will be sent to your previous address and you will not receive it before 1st April 2008.

Will it still be pass for life?

The new design passes will no longer be a pass for life but will cover a period of up to 5 years in line with Government Guidance.

You can continue to use your current pass to travel free on journeys staring or ending within Warwickshire until the 1st April 2008.

Can I use my new pass when travelling by rail, coach or in taxis?

Other modes of transport such as trains, coaches or taxis are not included within the scheme. Local Authorities can offer concessions that go beyond the statutory minimum as an additional benefit to local residents but any additions will be funded by the Local Authority.

As residents of Nuneaton and Bedworth you will only be able to use your pass on local bus services.
