Lead thefts
Published Wednesday 18th July 2012
Council tenants and leaseholders are being reminded that they can challenge anyone who appears to be a Council employee or contractor for identification.
This follows on from an incident recently where lead roofing was stolen from a Council-owned building by thieves who were wearing overalls - leading tenants to think that they were carrying out repairs on behalf of the Council.
The thieves struck at two separate times and were caught on CCTV so Council officers are currently working with the police to try and identify and prosecute the criminals.
Anyone who is unsure about visitors to their home can always ask for identification as all Council employees and contractors must carry it with them at all times. If they are still uncertain they can check with the Council by calling 024 7637 6406.
This theft is a very serious incident and we are working with the police to catch those responsible. I would urge anyone who is uncertain about a visitor to their property to give us a quick call and check that they should indeed be there.
Cllr Julie Jackson, Portfolio Holder for Housing
