Abbey Street regeneration

The Council has completed an agreement with St James's Investments to regenerate an area of land around the Abbey Street area.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has today completed an agreement with St James's Investments (SJI) that will eventually see the regeneration of part of Nuneaton Town Centre.
The project will centre around the Abbey Street area, with particular focus on the Abbey Street Car Park, with the aim of providing a vibrant development with approximately 10,200m2 (110,000 sq ft) of retail space, including a food store and petrol filling station, along with other retail and leisure uses.
The proposed development scheme will also help to address disused and dilapidated buildings in the area which have for several years been in need of redevelopment, including the former Gala Bingo Hall and the Kingsholme Public House.
This is excellent news for the Borough and demonstrates real confidence in Nuneaton Town Centre. We have worked very hard to ensure that the proposed scheme is appropriate, realistic and deliverable. SJI will now develop its plans for this site and bring them forward for consultation with the public. We are confident that by improving the retail offer in our town centres it will in turn support their long term viability and sustainability.
Councillor Dennis Harvey, Leader of the Council
