A Shaking of Handlooms exhibition
Were your ancestors ribbon weavers?  Find out more about Bedworth’s hidden past as a major contributor to the ribbon weaving industry in an exciting new exhibition.

‘Shaking of Handlooms’ runs between the 28th June to 17th August, and tells the fascinating stories of ribbon weaving in the area, as researched by local volunteers using census returns, newspapers and church records.

Learn about the technological changes in the industry and the living conditions of the men, women and children who would produce beautiful ribbon, often for very little money. Items from the museums collections will be on display as well as work created by local schools inspired by the industry.

There are also fun interactives for young visitors.

The ‘Shaking of the Handlooms’ project is based at Bedworth Arts Centre who were awarded a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Outputs from this project will include educational packs for schools, a website and a drama production.

Easel Club Exhibition
Sixteen talented artists from across the West Midlands will be exhibiting their works at Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery for the first time.   The works will include landscapes, abstracts, still life and portraiture.  The Easel Club was established in 1879 by Edmund Watson, a professional artist.   Included amongst the eminent founder members was Walter Langley, also responsible for starting the Newlyn Art Colony.

A serious commitment to the highest ideals in art continues to be the driving force of the group which limits its membership to just 25 artists. They meet monthly meetings to carry out searching appraisals of each member's work in progress.

The works in oil, acrylic, watercolour, clay and etching will all be for sale with prices ranging from £70 upwards.
