Nuneaton Festival of Arts: Art
Now running for over sixty years, Nuneaton presents its highly popular Festival of Arts. The Art Exhibition is the second of three ‘Festival of Arts’ exhibitions which will take place at the Museum & Art Gallery.

This exhibition features a large variety of work separated into two categories for children and adults in the White and Yellow galleries at Nuneaton Museum. Artists of all ages have entered this exhibition. Prizes awarded for each category.  Come and see the results for yourself. Some of the entries in the Adult category will be on sale.

All of the work has been judged by external professionals in Art organised by the Festival Committee. This year, the judges include Hammond Smith, a Fine Art dealer and academic of the local area.

Councillor John Waine, Portfolio Holder for Recreation & Culture stated:

“Nuneaton Festival of Arts has become an essential part of the town’s heritage. I remember it from when I was at school, though I was never sufficiently talented to participate!  However, I’m proud to have a couple of Third Place certificates from 1964, when I entered some of the photography classes.

That the Festival has endured for over 60 years is a testament to the dedication of those volunteers who have helped to organise it, year after year, and to the high quality of the work submitted by local people of all ages. It is also a tribute to the support provided by our Museum & Art Gallery staff over the decades. The people of Nuneaton may feel proud that our town has been able to sustain such an important event for so long.”

The Festival of Arts began in 1948. Organised by a team of volunteers, the Festival offers an opportunity for both individuals and groups to show off their artistic talents.

If you are interested in exhibiting in the Needlecraft and Craft Exhibition in April, free Festival of Arts Syllabuses are available to download from the Festival of Arts website. Visit http://www.nuneatonfoa.org.uk

Spatial Effects by Hilary Sussum. A contemporary sculpture Exhibition
Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery presents Spatial Effects, an exhibition of contemporary sculpture by artist Hilary Sussum.

Set on the Landing Gallery, Hilary displays over 15 pieces of modern sculpture made with paper pulp and wire. The 2-D and 3-D artworks vary from medium to large sizes. The sculpture pieces show how the artist has extended the use of natural paper fibres by combining them with metal wires and rods. Using the theme of balance, Hilary has expressed her idea of the moods surrounding objects. This exploration has resulted in the innovative shapes and colours of her work in this exhibition.

Hilary Sussum studied Textiles at Winchester School of Art and is a designer and lecturer of the subject. She has curated exhibitions displaying the versatility of paper and has exhibited her own work through Europe.

On Saturday 1st May, Hilary will be demonstrating various paper-making techniques at the Museum. Come and see the artist at work for FREE between 11.30am – 3.30pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Visit the Spatial Effects exhibition where many of Hilary Sussum’s pieces will be available to buy. Prices will range between £250 and £950.

With such classic hits as Sweets For My Sweet, Needles and Pins, Don’t Throw Your Love Away and When You Walk In The Room, The Searchers have contributed enormously in establishing the UK as the world’s leading nation in the music industry. With total record sales well in excess of 40 million, their recent compilation album “The Very Best of The Searchers” which includes all of their hits, has seen a recent welcome and deserved return to the UK charts.
