At present anyone fishing is required to have an Environment Agency Rod Licence and these may be checked by EA bailiffs.
Whilst fishing at these sites you are required to ensure no line or hooks are left behind on site, all rubbish must be taken off site or deposited in bins where available (or placed alongside the bins in bags).
Prohibited
Fishing is definitely not permitted at the following sites to conserve wildlife and is not permitted at any Council site unless signage clearly confirms it is permitted.
Ensors PoolThe Nook, BedworthBedworth Sloughs
Fires are also not permitted.
Prosecution may result and may carry particularly severe penalties in the case of Ensors Pool. This is because the site is protected with European status due to the presence of endangered white clawed crayfish. It is protected due to the risk of transferring crayfish plague via fishing tackle line used at other waters:
The Council is currently considering a revised fishing policy. This would let the Council’s waters to a club or clubs with discounted fees in recognition for bailiff services at both permitted and prohibited sites.
If you wish to express interest in this role as a club please contact our Parks Department via the contact centre on 024 7637 6379 or via email on parks@nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk
