Allotments

The Council has a statutory requirement to provide allotments. Individual allotment sites have the responsibility for the majority of their own infrastructure maintenance, collecting and retaining rents for the plots on site.

 

Allotment gardening is for all ages and abilities. In the past allotment gardening grew out of economic necessity. This can still be true today although generally there is a more gentler approach to enjoying an allotment. Tucked away in most parts of the Borough are dedicated people who all have a common interest. People have different reasons for taking on an allotment, from exercise to the sheer pleasure of growing your own produce.

 

If you have not tried vegetables straight from the plot to the pot you have been missing out on the chance to enjoy the taste and flavour of fresh vegetables, from varieties which are not always available in the shops. Dependent on how you garden you can also produce fresh vegetables cheaply. Allotment gardening is a leisure activity for all.
