Fit For Heroes

‘Fit for Heroes’ is an exhibition exploring how the Borough of Nuneaton and Bedworth changed during and after World War One. Part of this exhibition and its accompanying film 'An Act Of Life' can be seen in the Local History Gallery of Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery. These resources include the full panel text from the exhibition and a booklet which describes the outreach projects which accompanied the exhibition.

Bedbox, Blanco & Boots, National Service 1948 - 1963

What do you think of when you hear the word ‘teenager’? Do the words discipline, skills, smart, teamwork and comradeship spring to mind?

These words go a long way to describing the young people who were conscripted into National Service between 1948 and 1963. ‘Bedbox, Blanco & Boots, National Service 1948 – 1963’ at Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery takes a close up view of National Servicemen and their families from the local community.

With the help of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the exhibition uses film, photographs and objects from the Museum’s collections together with memories of National Servicemen and those affected by National Service. ‘Bedbox, Blanco & Boots’ reveals the previously untold story of National Service within the Borough.
