Local land charges

The Local Land Charges Section carry out the statutory function of maintaining a register of restrictions imposed on land to secure payment of money or limiting the use to which that land can be put. 
 
It also co-ordinates responses to formal enquiries about land from would-be purchasers.
 
The main duties are:

• The maintenance of the Register of Local Land Charges
• The processing and co-ordination of searches and enquiries of the local authority
• Dealing with enquiries from solicitors and the public arising out of the above

If you are submitting a search, please ensure that the address of the property is correct, the correct fee is submitted, and whilst a plan is not always necessary, it may speed up processing if you have one.  Please ensure that if you do submit a plan, it is consistent with the description of the property on the LLC1 and Con29 forms. 
 
Please note that the Council does not answer Con29 question 4 (Road proposals by Private Bodies).  A reply to this question requires substantial research. It would be necessary to identify all planning application proposals approved within 200 metres of the property (since 1948), establish, by examination of the approved plans and drawings, which of these proposals included road works of the type described in the enquiry and ascertain, where such works were included, whether or not the works have been completed.  A survey might also be necessary.  The Council does not have the resources to undertake this research.  The Register of Planning Applications is available for inspection should you wish to appoint your own consultant to carry out this work.
