Paying for car parking in Nuneaton town centre just got easier, in fact it can now be done on the go thanks to a new SMS text payment service which has been launched in three car parks.
Gone are the days of scrambling around for loose coins and asking strangers for change as for a small charge you can now simply send a text including the relevant car park code along with the length of time you wish to stay. You can also opt for a handy reminder service which will send you a text shortly before your time expires so you know when it is time to start heading back with your shopping. If you find that you need longer than you originally paid for then fear not, the new system allows you to top-up your time simply by sending another text, leaving you firmly in control of your day and avoiding a mad-dash to get back to your vehicle.
Setting up on the new system is simple and takes just a few minutes. You simply need to register your vehicle (you can register up to two different vehicles on one account) along with a credit or debit card online and there is also a smart phone app available. Once registered you are ready to go!
Currently the three car parks operating the new scheme include Regent Street 1 (outside the entrance to the Dunelm Mill store), Regent Street 2 (next to the old Liquid and Envy nightclub) and Justice Walk (opposite the Justice Centre). Plans to extend the scheme to the other car parks in the Borough depend on the success of the initial launch.
"The new pay-by-phone parking system offers convenience and control to users of the car parks. If, as we anticipate, it is popular with visitors to Nuneaton town centre then we aim to expand the service to other car parks too."Cllr Danny Aldington, portfolio holder for planning and development
