Core Strategy
BackgroundThe Core Strategy will have a big impact on the future of Nuneaton and Bedworth, influencing what it will be like to live in, work in or visit the Borough in 2026. It will look at things like housing, employment, health, education and leisure and will consider how they will work together to create new communities as well as add to the ones you are currently part of. Because of the importance of this strategy we have worked hard to find out what you think is the best way forward for the Borough. Core Strategy Issues and Options ConsultationIn Summer 2009, a 'Core Strategy Roadshow' travelled around the Borough gathering your views on the Core Strategy 'Issues and Options' document, listening to those who were in favour of the proposals, as well as those who had concerns. Presentations were also made at local Community Forums throughout the Borough, presenting all of the information and different options available. But we didn't just stop there! We wanted to reach as many people as possible, to do this we looked at innovative ideas, and this led to us launching our first ever external Blog and producing a short film which was uploaded to video file-sharing website YouTube to explain the information and processes involved, which clocked up a massive 500 views. Overall we had a huge response to the consultation with more than 800 online comments, as well as hundreds of questionnaires and group responses. What happens next? This is only the start of the process, and there is a long way to go before we are able to adopt the completed Core Strategy. We are now busy ploughing through all of the information and options that have been submitted, as well as carrying out a number of studies throughout the Borough including an employment land review, renewable energy assessment and infrastructure studies. All of this information will be considered before the preferred option is proposed. In addition to this we are also compiling a Housing Land Availability Study which has assessed the development potential of sites people would like us to consider allocating for development. The preferred option for the Core Strategy could be one of the options presented in the Issues and Options consultation, a mixture of more than one of those options, or even a new option suggested during the consultation. The details of the preferred option will be set out in a Preferred Options document, which will explain why it is the preferred option and why the other options have not been selected. It is anticipated that this information will be ready by September 2010, again this document will be made public and we will be asking for your opinions. Following the consultation on the Preferred Options document, there are a number of further stages in the Core Strategy's preparation:
We will need your support the whole way through this process, which will help us to make sure the future development of the Borough is in the best interest of all our residents and local businesses. As the information from the consultation is being updated, you can see all of the comments that have been made by logging onto our online consultation page. If you would like to find out more about the Core Strategy contact us on (024) 7637 6585 or (024) 7637 6329. Core Strategy Evidence BaseThe Council have undertaken an Employment Land Review to provide an evidence base for employment land policies and allocations in future planning policy documents. |
