The Council’s Sheltered and Very Sheltered Housing Schemes

The Council has 8 Very Sheltered Schemes and 25 Sheltered Housing Schemes which are Scheme Manager controlled.  Both types of schemes offer similar accommodation and facilities.

Very Sheltered Schemes maintain a higher Scheme Manager profile, have lifts to the first floor and some of them have luncheon clubs run by Social Services.

How to Apply

  • You will need to complete a Housing Application form. which can either be requested online and one will be posted to you or collected from the reception desk in the Council House.

  • If you are applying to move because of a medical condition you will also need to complete a Medical Application Form which should be requested along with the Application for Housing Form.

  • Please read "How to get a Council House" and "Housing for the Elderly" before you complete the form.

  • It is not possible to give waiting times as this is dependant on your circumstances. There is often a waiting list and the more areas of choice you select, the sooner you are likely to be offered accommodation.

  • Applicants who apply on medical grounds will receive a home visit so that their situation can be correctly assessed.

  • Disability should not create a problem in any of our schemes, as accommodation is designed to meet the needs of people in a wheelchair and with walking or other difficulties.

  • If an application is unsuccessful, or you are aggrieved by a decision not to award medical or social priority, or is unhappy with the category of medical priority awarded, an appeal can be made to the Assistant Director of Housing, Housing Services, Council House, Coton Road, Nuneaton, CV11 5AA.

  • The appeal must be in writing, and clearly state the matter that is felt warrants further consideration, and be accompanied in all cases by a letter from the applicants GP, or other medical advisor, confirming the medical condition and giving reason why the housing circumstances would be improved with alternative housing.

Conditions

  • Anyone aged over 50 who has a medical need for this type of accommodation can apply.
  • Anyone aged 60 or over, whether or not they have a medical need, can also apply.
  • If you are in doubt about the eligibility for admittance to the housing register, please complete and return the forms anyway. All applications are investigated.
