Supporting People
When you move into sheltered or supported accommodation an additional charge for the support service is made in addition to your rent, heating (if applicable) and service charge. However if you are entitled to Housing Benefit the additional charge will be paid in full by Supporting People Grant. The amount you will be charged will depend on the type of service you require i.e. properties with lifeline support only will be a lower charge than if you reside in a very sheltered scheme.
What is supporting People?
The Supporting People programme aims to provide a better quality of life for vulnerable people age 16 and over, by helping them to live more independently.
Supporting People fund organisations to deliver housing support services. These services will support people to remain living independently in their own home or provide support at short term accommodation to prepare people to move into independent living. These services can help people after being homeless, in hospital or prison. People leaving institutional environments can be helped to make the switch to independent living.
These services can prevent problems that can lead to hospitalisation, institutional care, custody, eviction and homelessness.
