Drain and Sewer problems

 

 

The council is only responsible for the drains that it owns, for example, those that service council properties.

 

If you have a blockage or defect in your house drain it is your responsibility to remedy the defect. If the problem is in a private sewer it will be adopted by Severn Trent but is the responsibility of all the property owners at and above the defect. Your insurance company maybe able to contribute to costs.

 

Where the defect causes a public nuisance our officers maybe able to assist in contacting the persons involved and if necessary use our legal powers to enforce a remedy.
