What is digital switchover?
Starting in 2008 and ending in 2012, TV services in the UK will go completely digital TV region by TV Region. This process is called digital switchover.
Switchover will involve changing the current television broadcasting system to digital, as well as ensuring that people have adapted or upgraded their television and recording equipment to receive digital TV.
With very rare exceptions, all TVs can be converted to digital with a digital box, even black and white ones. Visit your local retailer or TV rental company for more information on available products and how to connect them.
If you don’t already have a digital TV, you will need to convert your television equipment to digital.
You have four options –
· Get a digital box and plug it into your existing TV or get an integrated digital television which
has a tuner built-in – these will give you digital TV through an aerial (digital terrestrial);
· Subscribe to digital cable;
· Choose digital satellite, which has both subscription and free options;
· Subscribe to a service which delivers digital TV through a telephone line.
The availability of the different types of digital television will vary depending on where you live. Check out the available options in you area by using the Digital UK postcode checker.
Communal Aerials for NBBC Flat Blocks
NBBC has prepared a programme of works to replace communal aerials to its blocks of flats. The programme will commence in April 2009 and should be completed in 2010.
If you have a television at present you will keep it, but existing aerials will be removed and you will receive a signal from the communal aerial. If you have a satellite dish, you will have your dish removed and you will be able to receive Sky digital signals, as well as terrestrial digital-analogue television, FM radio and digital radio transmissions from the communal dish. Residents without satellite will have the option, once the system is installed, to link in to the Sky system via the normal purchasing route, but without the need for a dedicated dish.
The work will be carried out by Commercial Televisions Systems (UK) Ltd, who will contact tenants/leaseholders prior to commencement of works with further details, start dates and access requirements.
