It is confirmed that Digital switchover for the ITV central region will happen in 2011.
The government has announced a support scheme to make sure no one is left behind in the switchover. It will provide help and equipment and installation and follow up support for people aged 75 and over and people with significant disabilities. A call centre is available on 0845 650 5050 or if you are eligible for the Government Support Scheme call 0800 519 2021 or log on to http://www.digital.co.uk/.
What is digital switchover
Starting in 2008 and ending in 2012, TV services in the UK will go completely digital TV region by TV Region. This process is called digital switchover.
Switchover will involve changing the current television broadcasting system to digital, as well as ensuring that people have adapted or upgraded their television and recording equipment to receive digital TV.
With very rare exceptions, all TVs can be converted to digital with a digital box, even black and white ones. Visit your local retailer or TV rental company for more information on available products and how to connect them.
If you don’t already have a digital TV, you will need to convert your television equipment to digital.
You have four options –
- Get a digital box and plug it into your existing TV or get an integrated digital television which has a tuner built-in – these will give you digital TV through an aerial (digital terrestrial);
- Subscribe to digital cable;
- Choose digital satellite, which has both subscription and free options;
- Subscribe to a service which delivers digital TV through a telephone line;
- The availability of the different types of digital television will vary depending on where you live. Check out the available options in you area by using the Digital UK postcode checker.
Communal Aerials for NBBC Flat Blocks
NBBC are currently preparing a tender for the installation of digital communal TV aerials in our blocks of flats. Work will commence on these once a selected tender has been rigorously approved and awarded.
Surveys to establish which blocks will require work will be carried out by the successful contractor.
