Resident Involvement Strategy

What is an Involvement Strategy?

An Involvement Strategy is an agreement between tenants and the council which sets out the ways in which you as tenants can get more involved in taking decisions about your home and the housing services provided by the council.

Tenants and local councils can set up agreements to cover:

  • Council-wide areas or issues -giving you the chance to influence housing issues across the whole council area;
  • Neighbourhoods - giving you the chance to look at local problems or issues affecting the quality of life in your area.

How will you benefit?

Quite simply, because it will give you more say in how the council manages your home. Many councils regularly consult and involve their tenants in how their homes are managed. Tenants enjoy better services and a better quality of life as a result. The Resident Involvement Strategy will allow all tenants and councils to look together at how tenants can have a proper say in their housing service.

What does this mean to you

  • Clear, accessible information
  • Choice of involvement in local decisions
  • Support for your involvement at every level
  • Facilities for tenants groups
  • Councils decisions more accountable to you
  • New original ways for everyone to get involved

The Role of Councillors

Councillors have a role to play as representatives of their communities. They also have to be responsive to their wider electorate. They will be working with tenants' groups, making sure that tenant involvement strategies are doing what they are supposed to, and examining the performance of the housing service.

Successful Involvement Strategies

Will need to be flexible, and to change over time, as your needs change. That way we will match the housing services to what you want.
