How to Apply

You will need to complete a Housing Application form, which can either be requested on line and be posted to you or collected from the reception desk in the Council House.

If you are applying to move because of a medical condition you will also need to complete a Medical Form which should be requested along with the Housing Application Form.

Please have a look at the street list when applying for Council Housing and select areas that you wish to apply for.  Please ensure you submit the street list with your application form.

Following the receipt of your completed application form, your details will be checked against the Housing Policy.  Please ensure all forms are fully completed as this may delay the processing of your application.  If we require further information we will contact you either by letter or arrangements can be made for a home visit.

If you qualify, your application will be registered and a letter will be sent to you confirming that you have been placed on the Housing Register and the number of points that have been awarded.  As a general rule, the more flexible you are with your areas of choice, then the quicker we will be able to help you, providing you have sufficient points.  View more information on points and the Points System

Should you not qualify, you will be notified in writing of the decision and the reason for the refusal.

The Housing Policy is detailed in the booklet "How to get a Council House" copies are available at Council offices or can be requested by contacting us.  Alternatively request a booklet online and it will be posted to you.

Note: - If you are a Council Tenant and want to move more quickly, you can use the Mutual Exchange list to see if you can find a swap.
