Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s Child Protection Policy & Principles Commitment

Policy Statement:
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council consider that the welfare of a child is paramount. All children without exception have the right to protection from abuse; and all suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.

Guiding Principles:

  • The welfare of children and young people is paramount

All children whatever age, culture, disability, gender, racial origin, religious belief and/or sexual identity have the right to protection from abuse.

  • All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.

  • It is the responsibility of Children’s Social Care to determine whether abuse has taken place but it is everyone’s responsibility to report any concerns.

  • All children have the right to be safe and to be treated with dignity and respect.

  • All employees (whether paid or voluntary) have the right to recourse against any allegation made against them.

  • It is essential that if children are to be given appropriate protection that all employees work together to achieve this and that this Council is able to integrate with other agencies such as the Police and Children’s Social Care  who have a statutory responsibility in this area.

  • A child is defined as a person under the age of 18 (The Children Act 1989) and anyone of this age will be considered for the purpose of this document.

The Council will achieve its goals by:

1)     Offering safeguards, as outlined in the Child Protection Policy, to the children with whom we work.

2)     Ensuring that employees, volunteers and members of organisations taking part in Council activities or contracted to undertake work on behalf of the Council are appropriately:

3)  Checked for their suitability to work with children by undertaking an applicable Criminal Records       Bureau check and are trained in child protection procedures

4)  Making all available resources available to ensure safeguards are in place

5)  Any other method which ensures the welfare of a child/children
