A-Z of Recycling

The table below lists various materials and how they can be recycled in the Borough.
 
Material
What You Can Do With It
 
Aerosols
Empty aerosols can be placed in your red box and the can recycling banks
 
Baby Clothing/Accessories
 
Clean items can be taken to charity shops
Batteries
Car and household batteries can be placed in your red box or taken to Judkins Household Waste Site, Nuneaton. Use rechargeable batteries whenever possible
 
Books
Take books to charity shops or use book recycling banks.  Paperbacks can be placed in your red box, but hardback books need the cover removing first.
 
Cans/Tins
Both aluminium and steel cans and tins can be placed in your red box and in the can recycling banks around the Borough, provided they have been cleaned/rinsed out of food
 
Cardboard
Cardboard can be placed in your yellow recycling bag and put out on your red box collection day.  Judkins Household Waste Site, Nuneaton also has a separate skip for the recycling of cardboard
 
Cards
Cards can be placed in your yellow recycling bag and put out on your red box collection day.  They can also be recycled in the cardboard skip at Judkins Household Waste Site
 
Carpets
See 'contacts' under Furniture. If your carpets are old or worn out, you can use them to stop weeds growing in-between plants or you can use them to keep heat in on compost heaps
 
Carrier Bags
You can recycle your plastic carrier bags in the door entrance to supermarkets. You can re-use carrier bags as bin liners or as bags for when you next go shopping
 
Clothing & Textiles
Place clothing and textiles in your 'red box' or take to a textile recycling bank. You can also take clothing and textiles to charity shops
 
Coins
Take coins to Oxfam
 
Computers
Can be taken to Judkin's Household Waste Site
 
Cookers/Kitchenware
See charity organisations under 'Furniture'
 
Egg Boxes
You can place egg cardboard boxes in your yellow recycling bag and put out on your red box collection day, or they can be placed in the recycling skip at 'Judkins Household Waste Site'. Some retailers will refill the boxes if you return them, or they can be composted in your home composter
 
Plastic egg boxes should be placed in your orange sack and put out on your red box collection day.

Fabric/Paper Scrap Quantities
Children's playgroups, nurseries & schools can use many materials for play & handicrafts. If you have anything non-toxic & non-flammable that may be of use, try contacting a local primary school, playgroup or nursery
 
Foil
You can place foil and foil trays in your red box, provided they have been cleaned/rinsed of food
 
Food & Garden Waste
Vegetable waste can be composted in your home composter. Composters are available at a subsidised price and can be purchased by calling 0845 077 0757, or call 024 7637 6170 for more details
 
Furniture

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council offers a Bulky Waste Service - 5 items can be collected for £20.00.  Contact the council's reception areas to arrange a collection
 
Glass Jars/Bottles
Place clean/rinsed glass jars and bottles in your red box or take them to a glass recycling bank
 
Ink Cartridges

Junk Mail

Magazines
Place your magazines in the red box or take them to local surgeries, dentists or hospital waiting rooms
 
Medicine Bottles
Empty medicine bottles can be placed in your red box or taken to a glass recycling bank
 
Metal
Take metal to scrap metal dealers or to Judkins Household Waste Site
 
Milk Bottles
Wash out & return to your milkman 
 
Mobile Phones
Tesco provides envelopes for mobile phones to be posted for recycling. You can also take mobile phones to most phone outlets for recycling, or to Judkins Household Waste Site
 
Nappies

Oil
It is illegal to pour waste engine oil down the drain. You can place engine oil in a sealed container in your red box or you can take it to the Judkins Household Waste Site
 
Paper/Newspapers
Paper and newspapers can be placed in your red box. They can also be placed in paper banks located around the Borough
 
Photocopier cartridges

Both white and yellow telephone directories can be placed in your blue bag and put out on your red box collection day
 
Televisions
Televisions can be taken to Judkin's Household Waste Site
 
Textiles
Place textiles in the textile banks around the Borough, or put in a bag and put in your red box
 
Tins

Take wool to homes for the elderly and to charity shops
 
Sorry, we cannot recycle wrapping paper and it will need to be placed in your black bin for disposal.
