Composting

Composting
Composting is a method of turning organic material into a rich, earthy compost to use back on your garden. It uses heat, moisture, air and materials to create natural compost.

Why Compost?

  • It is a cheap way of obtaining nutrient rich compost for your garden.
  • It minimises the waste that goes into your black bin for incineration. All organic materials can be composted.
  • It’s a great means of education for children to get involved to witness earths natural processes.

The benefits of composting

  • A compost bin can be used all year round rather than 10 months like the green bin.
  • Grow your own fruit and veg from the compost produced at the end.
  • The compost created is a richer soil which means there is less watering needed.
  • You can put all fruit and veg peelings, grass cuttings, leaves etc into a composter.
  • Less collections of the green garden waste bin means less fuel consumption from vehicles which ultimately helps our environment.
  • The compost produced increases plant growth and health.

Visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/composting for a step by step guide on how to best use a composter, and for tips on common composting problems.

For more information on compost bins, call the recycling hotline on (024) 7637 6170.
