The main partners involved in this initiative are Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council, Advantage West Midlands, Warwickshire County Council and The Prince's Foundation. Pride in Camp Hill Ltd. was established by the partners as the company to deliver this project. We have established a partnership who are working closely with the local residents and businesses in the Camp Hill area.
Why Camp Hill?
Camp Hill is amongst the worst 10% of wards in the country and the most deprived ward in Warwickshire. This peripheral housing estate was originally built in the 1950s and 1960s to house miners moving into the area to work. The area was experiencing particular problems including poverty, relatively high unemployment, low public quality housing and a run down environment. It is now within the Nuneaton and Bedworth Regeneration Zone.
Current Physical Development
Phase One
The first phase of the new housing development has started on the site on the open land off Tuttle Hill. This new development involves the construction of 172 properties including 24 flats, 10 bungalows and 138 houses ranging from 2-5 bedrooms to accommodate the need. The homes will be of mixed tenure with private for sale houses mixed with 40 houses for rent and 6 shared ownership homes. A new link road will eventually run through the new housing development and join up with the Village Centre area (Phase Two).
Go-Ahead for the Village Centre
Builders have moved onto the village centre site to start work on the new community building.
Work began in January 2006 to level the site in preparation for building work on the £2.5 million facility. New fencing has also been erected around the site. Following the completion of the levelling, work will commence to dig the trenches and lay foundations. This is expected to take place during February and March. Work on the frame will start later in the year, with a view to completing the entire building by January 2007.
Warwickshire County Council will run the building. It is hoped that once planning permission is granted, early 2006, work on the shops and homes planned around the village centre can start in 2006.
Further plans can be viewed at the Camp Hill Community Office.
Community Involvement
Pride in Camp Hill is continuing to work closely with local residents on all elements of the project, which is underpinned by community involvement. The Camp Hill Residents' Forum have been in place since September 2004. The Forum is very much involved in various elements of the project and members also sit on the Pride in Camp Hill Board of Management, as Resident Directors. The Forum has an action plan which has already began to influence how services are delivered in the area.
