Cockroaches
The Borough Council has an efficient and professional pest control service for the treatment of cockroaches.
Charges
- A full treatment service for cockroach infestations in domestic premises is available at a charge of £58. (a discounted rate of £14.50 is available for those in receipt of specified benefits). The charge includes all necessary revisits to treat the single infestation and all associated materials and labour costs.
- Business Properties – hourly rate charged (We can offer quotes for commercial work only at times when capacity allows)
Description
- Two common types are the Oriental Cockroach and the German Cockroach the Oriental being the larger of the two
- Reddish brown in colour
- Long antennas at front
- Adult size up to 30mm long
- Drops egg cases in cracks and crevices
Signs to look for
- Cockroaches normally go in search of food at night, so are normally noticed when entering a dark room when lights are suddenly switched on cockroaches will be seen running for cover.
- Cockroach droppings in cupboards.
- Smell in bad infestations.
- Dead cockroaches.
Prevention
- Good hygiene is the key to keeping cockroaches out of your home. It denies a food source and makes them easier to spot.
- All cracks, crevices and other building problems that could provide a dark enclosure for cockroaches should be repaired as quickly as possible.
Treatments
Cockroach treatments are available from large DIY stores, if treating yourself ensure you read the label first. It is recommended that you use a professional pest control company for the treatment of a cockroach infestation.
The Borough Council offers a chargeable service for the treatment of cockroaches.
Prior to treatment ensure rooms to be sprayed are ready for the Pest Control Officer by ensuring areas are free from clutter and are easy to access.
