The Council is required to deal with stray dogs within its area.  A dog may reasonably be treated as a stray if it is roaming freely and not under the control of any person.  Dogs that are picked up are well looked after in kennels for a seven day period after which time the may be re-homed.

Warwickshire Police will not accept strays at police stations - people will need to contact this Council instead.  Anyone who finds a stray dog during office hours (9am-5pm) weekdays should call our Contact Centre on 024 7637 6405 and our Animal Wardens will call to collect the dog. Out of hours from 5pm-7pm weekdays and from 7am-7pm on Saturday and Sunday captured strays can be taken to Pheasants Nest Kennels at Pheasants Nest Farm, Smorrall Lane, Bedworth, CV12 0NL.

Fees and Charges

Stray dogs are picked up and taken to our kennels. A fee of £25.00 plus fees of £14.50 (total £39.50) for the first day’s kennelling, and £10 per day (or part day) thereafter, will be required to be paid before a dog is released.

If a stray dog is impounded, the above fees apply (including any veterinary expences incurred) must be paid to the Council before the dog will be released.  The fee varies depending on how long the dog has been at the kennels.  The dog will not be released and reunited with its owner until the fees have been paid in full.  There is no provision for payment by instalment.
