Animal - Fouling

The Council has two animal wardens who promote responsible dog ownership. They can issue fixed penalty dog fouling notices to dog owners who allow their dogs to foul public land.

Under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996, any person who permits a dog that is in their charge to foul any area to which the public has access is committing an offence. The local authority may provide bins in parks and other public areas to which may be used by dog owners. The local authority are responsible for monitoring dog fouling and for initiating court proceedings against offenders.  
 
Dog waste bins are situated throughout park and recreational area in the Borough.
