Gender Equality Scheme 2007-2010

Please find below details on the new Gender Equality Scheme that was introduced in April 2007:

Why has this scheme been created?

The Gender Equality Scheme has been created by the Equality Act 2006.  This is known as the Gender Equality Duty. This duty puts a legal obligation on the Council to:

  • To eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment
  • To promote equality of opportunity between men and women

This is a positive duty which ensures that gender issues are incorporated into everything service the Council performs.

When is this Scheme going to be introduced?

The Gender Equality Duty came into force on the 6th April 2007. You can view the Council's Gender Equality Scheme below.

What will our scheme include?

Our scheme includes the following:

  • How we have involved men and women in developing the scheme
  • An action plan on how we are going to address Gender Equality
  • Details on conducting a regular equal pay review
  • How we are going to carry out gender equality impact assessments
  • How we are going to monitor the progress of the scheme
