Statistically, Warwickshire remains one of the safest places to be in the United Kingdom. Nevertheless there is a level of crime across the County which needs to be reduced by statutory agencies and local communities working together.

Crime and Disorder
This was recognised in the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 which created 376 crime and disorder reduction partnerships across England and Wales. Each partnership is based on a local authority area and is charged with reducing crime and the fear of crime.
The Act requires the "responsible authorities" in each area (the Police and Local Authorities) to carry out an audit of crime and disorder every three years, analyse the results and devise a strategy for tackling the priority issues affecting local communities.
New powers to control antisocial behaviour were created by the Act and are supported by further Acts and legislation.
The Partnership combines community, voluntary and business organisations, Warwickshire County Council, Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council, Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, Probation and Health Services all working together to reduce crime and the fear of crime.
The Partnerships three year strategy (2008-2011) is refreshed annually. The priorities identified for the Partnership to focus on for 2009/10 are:
- Violent crime - Target 2% reduction on 2008/09
- Acquisitive crime (Domestic & Distraction Burglary, and vehicle crime.) - Target 3.4% reduction on 2008/09
- Public Reassurance - including Criminal Damage, Anti-Social Behaviour and Deliberate small fires.
- Substance Misuse (Drugs & Alcohol)
The full refreshed Partnership Plan 2009/10 can be downloaded to view or hard copies are available by contacting the Community Safety Team.
The NABSCOP Annual Report 2008/09 gives detailed information about the work of the Nuneaton and Bedworth Safer Communities Partnership over the past year, along with the initiatives and projects that it has been involved with to reduce crime, fear of crime and substance misuse.
