Press Coverage

The Akai Hino Kai (AHK) has been teaching martial arts within the local community since July 1982.  The aim of the group is to deliver affordable martial arts tuition across the community to all ages.  The group is run on a not-for profit basis and the classes are led by volunteer instructors and helpers.

Akai Hino Kai means ‘The Society Of The Red Sun’ and the practitioners believe that the art helps them to lead a better understanding of oneself and enhances their understanding of life.

The group train at the Nuneaton Club for Young People on Avenue Road and running costs are covered by a members training fee.  In a bid to enhance the professionalism and credibility of the volunteers, and promote the activities within the community the AHK applied to the Community Plan Fund for help.

They wanted to enable the volunteers to gain professional qualifications in coaching, instruction, child protection and health and safety, as well as offering them the chance to gain first aid qualifications.  The group also felt that more promotional work was needed, and asked for financial assistance with leaflet production and distribution and advertising in local press.

The group was successful with the application and they were awarded £3,000 of community plan funding.

Councillor John Waine Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Communities
“The AHK martial arts group is one well worthy of this funding.  It serves a real cross section of society and offers something slightly different to the local community.  It’s vitally important that groups like this are able to continue and play a part in the borough.”
