The Salvation Army Bedworth received £2,400 from the Community Plan Fund towards providing information and support by delivering 12 themed sessions.

Salvation Army Information Day
The 3rd April was the date of the first Information Day at the Salvation Army in Bedworth.  The day was themed around benefits and advice that are available to those most in need.  This was just one of the themed days funded by the Community Plan, and a staggering 210 people attended.

Organisations represented were Warm Front, Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council Housing Benefits and Recycling Team, Leisure Trust, and the Police to name a few.

All of the visitors to the centre received the advice they needed, and here are just a few of the success stories:

Mrs Mavis Tallet
Mrs Tallet is 88 years old and is registered blind she came along to the Bedworth Roadshow last September, she had no heating in her house so she used to come up to the Salvation Army every day to keep warm, since her visit to the road show last September she has had full central heating fitted, and has had smoke detector fitted all for free.

Mrs Tallet said “I am very pleased with all the work and help I have received and would like to thank all the people who have worked so hard to make this happen.  It is wonderful to be warm in my own home.”

Mrs Tallet came along to April's advice day to get some advice on how to stay safe in her home from the Police.

Mrs Sylvia Grayman
Mrs Grayman is 78 years old and she also attended last Septembers Road Show.

Mrs Grayman's heating had broken down three years ago and her boiler was condemned so she had been living without heating or hot water, to have a bath she had been boiling kettles and saucepans to fill the bath.  They have just finished fitting her central heating and she has had a shower added to the bathroom to make it easier for her to bathe.

Mrs Grayman said “I can’t believe that after all this time I have hot water on tap and I don’t have to sit in the house with my winter coat on it is so nice and I am so grateful for all the help I have had.”

Mrs Grayman came along to the advice day and they are going to help her insulate her house this time!
