Nuneaton Cycle Club, supported by Warwickshire County Council and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s Sustainable Community Plan Fund, received £4,000 to promote ‘cyclenuneaton’ and ‘cyclebedworth’, a new local initiative to encourage the local community to get on their bikes and cycle!
The cycle club has done this by spending part of their funding on producing a new leaflet promoting the Nuneaton Cycle Club, under the branding of cyclenuneaton and cyclebedworth, hoping that more people will get to know there is a cycle club locally which wants new members…
This year’s Family Fun Ride was a huge success with the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tom Wilson and his wife, Deputy Mayoress Councillor Sonya Wilson waving off 123 cyclists, aged from 5 to 65 cycling out from Ambleside Sports Club, Nuneaton on Thursday 19th June on this annual 5 or 10 mile bike ride. Organised by Nuneaton Cycle Club and supported by Warwickshire County Council and Nuneaton and Bedworth Sustainable Community Plan, we kicked off with the new branding of ‘cyclenuneaton’ a great way of promoting cycling to the local community.
The Secretary of Nuneaton Cycle Club, Anne Taylor says “ This year’s event was brilliant. The sun shone and families came to enjoy a pleasant evenings cycle ride! Halford’s provided a Dr Bike and there was Police tagging session too! After registration and being given a free high viz vest courtesy of 3Ms with our new branding ’cyclenuneaton’ on them off they went, all 123 riders being waved off by the Deputy Mayor Councillor Tom Wilson - it was a great sight to see! She went to say “When the riders returned they were all given a 5 or 10 mile ‘I DID IT’ certificate by the Deputy Mayor and a ‘cyclenuneaton’ branded rucksack, water bottle and wheel reflectors…… everyone was so please with goodie bag! Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event with lots of positive feedback from parents and children alike! Thanks to everyone for coming, it really makes it all worthwhile!
The evening finished off with a barbeque and raffle, with first place a bike donated by Chris Dodd & Sons bike shop. This was won by Georgina Butler from Stockingford who was over the moon! Many other bike gifts were won by the participants and all in all the organisers and marshals ended the evening by about 9pm.
Every year our Family Fun Ride proves extremely popular with families during Bike Week. It’s aim is to encourage more families to get on their bikes and celebrate cycling! The rides are always suitable for novices with 5 and 10 mile routes around Weddington and Higham. The marshalling provides safe cycling and is always supported by Nuneaton Cycle Club who is promoting ‘cyclenuneaton’ from the Sustainable Community Plan fund. The event is free of charge and is a great way to get fit, have fun and feel free!
