Dog Breeding Licence

Dog Breeders have to be licensed by the Council. An annual inspection is carried out to ensure that animals are kept in a clean, safe environment.

Under the Breeding of Dogs Act 1973, as amended by the Breeding and Sale of Dogs (Welfare) Act 1999, you must have a licence from the local authority to keep a breeding establishment for dogs. Premises must be inspected by a local authority officer and a vet prior to issuing of the licence.

  • This is an annual licence. 
  • An application form must be submitted along with the fee.
  • Current fee is £262.50.

  • Applications are usually processed within one week.
